Sally Huang

Dongping (Sally) Huang’s first Master of Education in China focused on English methodology and her second Master of Education in Australia focused on Manadarin language acquisition.

In China she served as a Vice President from 2003 to 2004 at the Association for Postgraduate students of Jiangxi Normal University, China. In that time she was an active Vice President involved with a multitude of student events.  In 2007, she became involved with the La Trobe University Postgraduate Association (LUPA) while completing her Master’s of Education.  Her first role in 2007 was as Vice-President and in 2008 she became President of the LUPA completing that role in 2009.

Sally was elected as International Officer in CAPA in October 2008 and enjoyed fulfilling the role’s responsibility. From 2008 to 2009, Sally has actively assisted CAPA to promote and expand its engagement on behalf of international postgraduates. As an international student herself, she particularly liked working with other fellow student associations to improve the representation of international students at a higher Education level. A focus has been on student issues including ‘The Inquiry into International Student Welfare’ and other reviews. Other issues have revolved around the representation of international students, improving student safety and gaining access to public transport concession cards. Being elected to the role of Vice-President of Equity at CAPA for 2010 has provided Sally with the opportunity to serve all postgraduates further.

Sally has worked as an English lecturer, English-Chinese translator and Mandarin teacher. She is currently a multicultural aide at a Victorian secondary school.  She is active with gym and practices yoga on a regular basis.
