Myint Myint San arrived in Australia as a refugee from Burma in 1993. Her life has been a rollercoaster since the famous 8.8.88 Uprising that also gave rise to the house imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyi. The uprising forced many Burmese students to flee Burma and conduct their revolutionary struggle in the jungles of the Thai-Burma border. Myint Myint was one of them. In 1993, she joined a special program funded by the Australian government for Burmese students in Thailand to study in Australia. She gained a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at Monash University. She went back to Thailand in 2000 and founded a tight-knit group of more than 50 women from Burma who were trained as "women as peace builders" under the banner of the Women's League of Burma (WLB).
